Seventeen-year-old Kareena Thapa, a brave Gorkha girl from Amravati, Maharashtra has been awarded with prestigious Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by President, Droupadi Murmu for her heroic act of saving 70 families during a fire outbreak at Jai Amba Apartment in Amravati.
On May 15, 2024, a massive fire broke out in apartment complex, putting dozens of lives in danger. Displaying remarkable courage and quick thinking, Kareena risked her own life to break into a locked flat and managed to control the fire near a gas cylinder, preventing a catastrophic explosion. Her fearless actions not only saved lives but also averted what could have been an unimaginable tragedy.
Kareena’s bravery has been widely recognized and she was also named Fire Brand Ambassador by the Municipal Corporation Commissioner 2024.
The award was presented to her by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati bhawan in New Delhi who lauded her as a shining example of extraordinary courage in the face of danger.
