A 44-year-old Bhutanese monk was found dead in the lift's basement of a hotel in Jaigaon on the night of January 2. The deceased has been identified as Dawa Norbu Lama of Paro, Bhutan. The monk had checked into Hotel Hill View with his travel companions, preparing to leave for Bodh Gaya the next day.
According to sources, the group went out for dinner when the monk realized he had left his citizenship ID card in his room. He returned to retrieve it but did not come back. When his phone remained unanswered, his companions reported the matter to the police.
The Jaigaon police, along with Royal Bhutan Police, conducted a search and found the monk’s body in the hotel’s lift basement around midnight.
Preliminary findings suggest he may have fallen from the third floor of the hotel. Reports indicate the elevator he used was old and lacked proper safety measures.
The monk’s belongings, including cash and a gold ring, were recovered at the scene. The body has been sent to Cooch Behar for a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

Lift & safety of it is questionable, but for sure nothing will happen on this as is the condition of Jaigaon in general
