Aditya Thapa, a 22-year-old footballer from Dalsingpara, playing as Midfielder has made Dooars region proud by helping West Bengal win the prestigious Santosh Trophy 2024. The thrilling final held on Tuesday at G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad, saw West Bengal defeating Kerala 1-0 to clinch the coveted title.
Known for his exceptional skills and consistency, Aditya delivered standout performances throughout the tournament. His contribution in the final was crucial as he played under the guidance of coach Sanjoy Sen alongside his talented teammates from the West Bengal Football Team, also referred to as IFA Bengal.
Aditya’s journey to success is inspiring. Born and raised in Dalsingpara in Dooars, trained and guided by his Footballer Father Uttam Thapa, who's also a current president of DSA, his football journey began at the Dalsingpara Sports Academy (DSA). According to the DSA secretary, Aditya’s talent was soon recognized, leading him to play for United Sports Kolkata in Calcutta Football League and later on his dedication and hard work earned him a spot in West Bengal Football Team for Santosh Trophy 2024 where he showcased stellar performances and brought home the championship.
Aditya’s next big step will see him competing in the Hero I-League, furthering his football career and bringing pride to his hometown as per DSA secretary.
The Santosh Trophy is India’s premier inter-state football tournament, organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). It has a rich legacy, with many players who have represented India internationally starting their careers in this competition.
