Journalist Found Dead in Septic Tank Days After Exposing ₹120 Crore Corruption Scandal

The body of 28-year-old journalist Mukesh Chandrakar was discovered on January 3 in the septic tank of a contractor's house in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. Mukesh, associated with a local news channel, had been missing since January 1. He had recently exposed a ₹120 crore corruption scandal in a road construction project in Bastar, prompting the government to initiate an investigation against the contractor.

Mukesh was last seen attending a meeting organized by Ritesh Chandrakar, the brother of contractor Suresh Chandrakar. When Mukesh’s phone was found switched off, his elder brother Yukesh Chandrakar filed a missing persons report.

Police tracked Mukesh’s last location using CCTV footage, leading them to the septic tank at contractor Suresh Chandrakar's residence, where his body was recovered.

Authorities have arrested Suresh Chandrakar in Hyderabad and Ritesh Chandrakar in Delhi. Additionally, a laborer involved in disposing of the body has also been apprehended. Several suspects are being questioned in connection with the case.
