A police constable named Sintu Tigga, who worked in the Darjeeling Police had come to his home in Dakshin Latabari in Alipurduar for a vacation. The incident occurred on Sunday when an elephant from the nearby Buxa forest entered the area, causing trouble.
Last night, after finishing dinner, Sintu heard a noise outside. When he went to check, he saw an elephant had entered their betel nut orchard, causing damage. Sintu, along with his two brothers and nephew, tried to chase the elephant away.
The elephant suddenly turned aggressive and charged at them. While the others managed to escape, the elephant caught Sintu, lifted him with its trunk and trampled him. Sintu died on the spot.
The incident, which took place near the Buxa Tiger Reserve forest has left the entire area in panic. Police later recovered Sintu's body.
